Born on March 10.

Enrolls in the faculty of fine arts at the Universidad del País Vasco in Leioa, graduating in 1982.

Badiola’s work is selected for the IV Bienal de Pintura de Bilbao.

Has his first solo exhibition, at the Aula de Cultura de la Caja de Ahorros Municipal in Bilbao.

Badiola’s first exhibition in a private gallery takes place at Galería Windsor Kulturgintza in Bilbao. He also exhibits at Galeria Metrònom in Barcelona and Galería Ciudadela in Pamplona.
Begins teaching in the faculty of fine arts at the Universidad del País Vasco, continuing to teach at the school until 1988.
Receives a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Culture.

Founds the EAE (Euskal Artisten Elkartea [Basque Artists’ Association]), together with artists José Chavete, Iñaki de la Fuente, José Ramón Morquillas, Fernando and Vicente
Roscubas, and Txupi Sanz and art critic and professor Xabier Sáenz de Gorbea. Receives a grant from the province of Vizcaya.

Exhibits at Galería Windsor Kulturgintza in Bilbao.
Wins second prize at Gure Artea 1984, sponsored by the Basque government.

Receives a grant from the Basque government to create works in bronze.
Wins second prize in the international art competition Villa de Bilbao.

Wins first prize at Gure Artea 1986.
Exhibits at the Casa de Cultura in Avilés, Spain.

Exhibits for the first time in Madrid, at Galería Soledad Lorenzo.
Receives the ICARO Award for an outstanding young artist from the newspaper Diario 16.

Moves to London for a year on an artist-in-residence grant from the Delfina Studio Trust.
Curates an exhibition of Jorge Oteiza’s work, Oteiza: Propósito experimental, which will be shown at Fundació “la Caixa” in Barcelona and Madrid and the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao.

Creates, with sculptor Pello Irazu, an installation at the Riverside Studios in London.
Receives the Grand Prix Henry Moore from the Utsukushi-ga-Hara Open-Air Museum in Japan.

After receiving a grant from the Comité Conjunto Hispano-Norteamericano, moves to New York, where he will live for the following eight years.
Creates the M.D. series.
Begins to publish essays on art in several magazines, including Flash Art, Spazio humano, and Giornale dell’arte.
Takes part in the Bath International Festival in Bath, England, with a show at Artsite Gallery.

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona holds a major retrospective of Badiola’s work from 1990 to 2002, entitled Malas formas, which later travels to the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao.
