What can you find in this room? A free play space to model clay, plus a series of tools to show how versatile it is. Inspired by Richard Serra’s The Matter of Time, you will be able to recreate some of the Museum’s sculptures or start from scratch, letting your hands set the pace.
In this unstructured play experience, participants explore the countless possibilities of clay, based on Serra’s idea that sculpture is all about action and the specific properties of materials. This is not guided play: here no-one will tell you what to do or what not to do. Like the master of monumental minimalism, you will have to focus on the process. The result does not really matter: you will need to concern yourself with the act of creation, guided by wonder and emotion.
This activity is in line with the human urge to explore different possibilities, kindling curiosity with answers to the ever-renewing question “What if…?”. In other words, this play experience encourages you to give free rein to your imagination, empowered by the stimulating environment provided by the Museum. This activity is meant to be ephemeral, happening in the here and now, without materializing into something permanent, inviting you to explore and create at your own pace as you partake in the global excitement spurred by the game.
