The plant kingdom as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for many drawing techniques.
Drawing invites us to take a closer look at things— to retrace our steps, look, and look again. This time, we will look to the plant kingdom as a source of inspiration, mastering different techniques—charcoal, watercolors, markers, etc.—and trying a number of painting surfaces. This course is conceived of as a series of progressive workshops to unfold from October to May.
Saturday, November 2: Done/Undone
Let’s focus on negative space, moving from figure to background and then back to figure. Playing with this concept, we will learn about geometry and ratio.
Saturday, November 9: Plant Inventory
How many types of plants can you identify and draw around you? Let’s play botanists and do some fieldwork in the environs of the Museum!
Saturday, November 16: Drawing a Forest
Do plants and trees “talk” to each other in the woods? What you can and cannot see in this type of ecosystem: roots, nests, burrows, mycelium… Draw a charcoal mural and learn how to work with blots, contrast, and brightness.
Saturday, November 23: Let Trees Do the Drawing
Let’s work with non-human beings by attaching markers to the ends of a tree’s branches and looking at their patterns in the wind. How high can you go? How much do the branches sway? Who is the author of the drawing in the end?
