MARO
MARO – Mariana Brito da Cruz Forjaz Secca – is a Portuguese singer and songwriter. She began studying classical piano when she was 4. At 11, she wrote her first song. At 12, she became a self-taught guitarist, turning the guitar into a key musical instrument for her as a composer. At 20, she was admitted to the Berklee College of Music in Boston. It was here that she met Jacob Collier, among other musicians, performing for his album Djesse, Vol. 2.
MARO released her first album, MARO, in 2018 – a three-volume record including twenty-two tracks. It was followed by MARO & Manel, recorded with Manuel Rocha, and by It's OK, a collection of nine electroacoustic folk songs in English released after she signed a management contract with legendary record producer Quincy Jones. In 2019, she embarked on an international tour with Jacob Collier, covering Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Australia. In 2023, she released Hortelã, her first album under Sony Music Entertainment, and sang “Estrelas e raiz” with Rita Payés and Sílvia Pérez Cruz.
