Richard Artschwager

Son of European immigrants, Richard Artschwager (1923–2013) was born and worked in the United States. His studies in biology, chemistry and mathematics at the University fostered in him a scientific mindset evident in his work as an artist. He achieved success in making wooden furniture and it was in his cabinetmaking workshop that he found inspiration for his artistic career, which began late; he didn't exhibit solo until he was forty-two.
