Bremen is a historic city located in the north of Germany along the river Weser; this proximity enabled the city to thrive as a commercial hub. In this framework, the Kunstverein in Bremen was born in 1823 as an initiative by a group of affluent citizens, who organized weekly meetings with the purpose of viewing and critiquing their private collections of paintings and sculpture.
