Labyrinths are spaces that awaken our imagination, evoking entanglements, challenges, multiple possibilities for play and adventure. They are a challenge for anyone trying to make their way through them.

The sculptures in Richard Serra’s The Matter of Time Serra might remind us of a magical labyrinth that transforms as we make our way through it, generating a feeling of space in motion. We will explore these fascinating pieces by looking at how light and shadows guide us between their walls.

Serra’s installation and classical labyrinths, such as the famous one that held the Minotaur, will serve as a source of inspiration in this workshop as we build our own labyrinth to explore the shadows created by light and colored plastic.

Light bulbs, flashlights, paint, and color acetates will be our tools to experiment and create, allowing us to freeze our shadows in picture form. We will “capture” the shadows of each participant, pinning them down to the walls of the labyrinth.
