This conference delves into advanced visions and scenarios of global mobility, as presented in a series of design and technology projects drafted by students at some of the world’s most prestigious universities for the Gallery of the Future–the gallery that brings to a close the exhibition Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture, curated by Norman Foster for the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. This show, along with its culmination in the Gallery of the Future, is on view from April to September 2022, and will be the backdrop of the conference in the framework of the Summer Course program at UPV-EHU.
Guest speakers at Future Mobilities include faculty members from the Royal College of Art in London, ETH Zurich, Umeå University, TU Delft, MIT Media Lab, Yale University, the University of Tokyo, Politecnico di Milano, Tsinghua University, Universidad de Mondragon, University of Cape Town, Hongik University, Tecnológico de Monterrey, ArtCenter College of Design and Universidad de Navarra. The presentation of their research will be accompanied by dialogues with the curatorial team at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Norman Foster Foundation. Through them, the course will give voice to the design teams that have guided international groups of students in the materialization of their visions of mobility in speculative, distant and midterm futures. In so doing, it will address the most urgent questions about the sustainability of local and planetary economies, and the future of human societies driving them.
