Creative Lab: Symbolic Forms

Admission

€5 Museum Members / €7 general public

Location

Educational Area, Museum galleries

Take a look at the fascinating work of Hilma af Klint, a pioneer of abstraction.

When Hilma af Klint created her paintings, about a hundred years ago, they looked like nothing people had seen before. It took several years for others to take similar steps in order to break away from figurative art. In a tour of her exhibition, we will compare and contrast her figurative and abstract works.

Once we get familiar with af Klint’s forms and symbols, we will use them as a source of inspiration to create our own, starting with basic geometric shapes like squares, circles, triangles, or spirals and then moving on to more organic forms. Afterwards, we will discuss the symbols chosen and think of the title for a collaborative work of art.
