The Museum Library is specialized mainly in contemporary art and in the Guggenheim Bilbao Collection, which focuses on collecting works created between the mid-20th century and the present day. Therefore, volumes published during that period are prominent.

The project
he project started to take shape in 1997 with the aim of providing access to knowledge both for the Museum staff and all interested members of the public—hence its free admission.
Bibliographic collection
Today it contains a wide-ranging bibliographic collection consisting of over 13,000 volumes—including monographs and exhibition catalogues—organized into different subjects, plus a long list of art journals to which the Museum is subscribed. In addition, it holds documents related to the temporary exhibitions, the Collection, and its artists. Other media materials, such as CDs and videos, are also available.
User services
User services include: free consultation of most of the Collection in the reading room; consultation of the computerized catalogue similarly available on the Museum website, and free use of multimedia equipment with Internet access.
